Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide | Amsterdam — Europe’s best-preserved 17th-century city — is simultaneously quaint and jarring, traditional and modern. Filled with history and still happy-go-lucky, it’s a delight to explore. Uniquely entertaining Amsterdam shows off its Rembrandts and Van Goghs, more bikes than cars, flirting prostitutes, and pot-filled coffeeshops — all under tall, skinny facades leaning out over placid canals.

  1. Again, spot on! You did your homework Rick! The Jordaan indeed is the "creme"! The fried bananas are good, in surinam they call it Bakabana (bakbanaan). But we are not proud on our Indonesian horror past. Many innocent Indonesian people were killed by the Dutch and nobody knows that, it's not in the school books!
It's called the Rawagede massacre, caused by us, the Dutch.

  2. J'adore. Je l'ai visité. Pour moi c'est l'une des plus belles villes au monde 🗺 ❤️❤️❤️❤️j'aimerais y retourner 😘😘

  3. Oh come on ole boy, Trickie Rickie… you stopped by the Red Light District for a 'Rub 'n Tug' didn't ya? I mean you we really asking hard about buying marijuana, that couldn't have been just for comparing prison time. You honestly could not be a huge prude, like you look, can ya?! Hmm… I mean don't get me wrong, I love culture, local cuisines, sights, etc… but you gotta release from time to time, am I right, Steve-O? You are in the drug 'n prostitution Capital of the world! Legally! I was initially shocked that you even explored those two districts there, we all knew about it. Maybe you're loosening up a bit in your older ages!

  5. Well the Dutch government is smarter because they make more money by legalizing and regulating pot and hookers than imprisoning those who make use of such services!

  6. It amazed me a tiny country like netherland was able to colonize Indonesia for 350 years!! And got obliterated by Germans in just few years in WW2.

  7. There's actually some doubt now about whether or not Van Gough shot himself . . . it could have been an accident caused buy some mischieveous kids.

  9. Whenever this city is mentioned, I always recall my mate Shiela Tanney when she had come to Nepal as a tourist n I met her on my way to Bhairahawa. If she is also watching this video, I wanna send her a lot of rememberence n hearty affection.

  10. Take a cheaper hotel just (10-15 km outside of North of Amsterdam) and rent a bike for the whole time. There are separate bike lanes everywhere and you can see the countryside with roundtrips of less than 60km. It is cheap and efficient and the Dutch way. Highlights: Zaanse Schans, Volendam/Marken/Edam, Kinderdijk Windmills.

  13. Steves needs to stick to travel guide rather than political commentator!  Hard drugs may be forbidden, but Amsterdam is world famous for them!
